Unscheduled Announcements: Summer is here!

While our Faith may come Unscripted, so can things like discouragement, stagnation, and the blahs. And, my very scientific sources seem to point to a high rate of incident for these things by Monday afternoon. So, at least for the summer, I thought I’d try to find some things that help battle the Monday blues. Some Monday Inspiration, if you will.  Mondspiration.  Ok, perhaps that one is going too far.

So I invite you to join me in turning Mondays into something a little more enjoyable, and perhaps something that can set the tone for a fun/exciting/productive week. Something that rates higher than simply “bearable”.  Mostly, I plan on sharing things with you that I have found (not necessarily things that I have created myself) that give me a well-appreciated boost, because I think you’ll like them too.  So count on spending your 15 minute break on Monday afternoons this summer right here.

In other news, I will have the privilege to travel to Ireland for 10 days later this month, and may be posting as internet is available.  So keep your eyes peeled for that, too.

What have you come across recently that has inspired you? (pst, that’s your invitation to share it here)

  1. Funny you should ask. As I was reading this, this is the tune that was playing:

    Words & Music: John Hiatt
(The Don Henley version…for what that’s worth)

You were dreaming on a park bench
’bout a broad highway somewhere

When the music from the carillon
Seemed to hurl your heart out there

    Past the scientific darkness

    Past the fireflies that float

    To an angel bending down
To wrap you in her warmest coat

And you ask, “what am I not doing? “

She says “your voice cannot command.
In time, you will move mountains,
And it will come through your hands.”

Still you argue for an option
Still you angle for your case
Like you wouldn’t know a burning bush
If it blew up in your face

Yeah, we scheme about the future

And we dream about the past

When just a simple reaching out

Might build a bridge that lasts

So whatever your hands find to do
You must do with all your heart

    There are thoughts enough

To blow men’s minds and tear great worlds apart

There’s a healing touch to find you
On that broad highway somewhere
To lift you high
As music flying

    Through the angel’s hair.

Don’t ask what you are not doing

    Because your voice cannot command
In time we will move mountains

And it will come through your hands
